Locomotion uses 3 states: S0 stationary, S1.1 moving (four-way control), and S1.2 walk/run-in-place.
| Direction | Gesture |
|---|---|
| Forward | Touch state ABD (both left buttons + right ball) and tilt the right foot forward |
| Backward | ABC (both left + right heel) and tilt the right foot backward |
| Right | BCD (both right + left ball) and tilt the left foot forward |
| Left | ACD (both right + left heel) and tilt the left foot backward |
| - Speed = tilt angle of the tilted foot. | |
| - Stop: lift either foot off the ground, or press all four (ABCD). Both feet must stay on the ground to keep moving. | |

- Add the Foottroller driver to SteamVR, run Foottroller Hub on Windows, then set up Foottroller control binding in SteamVR for each game. A video and a PDF are available.
- Hub sends Foottroller input to the Foottroller SteamVR driver.
- Pre-configured binding profiles exist for: VRChat, Baam Squad, Boneworks, Half-Life: Alyx, No Man's Sky, Onward, Zenith: Nexus, Arizona Sunshine Remake, Arizona Sunshine 2, Skyrim VR, Blade & Sorcery, Fallout 4 VR, RE4/RE2/RE3/RE7 (VR mods), Atomic Heart (UEVR), Hogwarts Legacy (UEVR), Fracked, Vertigo 2, Minecraft VR, "and more". The latest profiles are downloadable (input.zip). To use them, replace .../foottroller/resources/input (/flat2vr).
- Binding requests go to support@jptiinc.com.
- Video: SteamVR setup (driver, verifying inputs, binding, disabling Steam Input, adding per-game binding files) https://youtu.be/bPx_QMZ3PQo
- Games with legacy bindings: per the official videos, Skyrim VR needs no dedicated profile (https://youtu.be/iBimRKXBXZQ), and Google Earth VR is set up through a legacy binding (https://youtu.be/_o7E3ony4C4).
*Sources: https://foottroller.com/instructions, https://foottroller.com/flat2vr, https://foottroller.com/foottroller-hub*
- Option 1 (recommended): Virtual Desktop + customized VDXR + Foottroller Hub. Virtual Desktop is required. No per-game binding is needed.
1. Use the updated Foottroller Hub from the zip download.
2. Copy virtualdesktop-openxr.dll from the zip's VDXR folder.
3. Back up the original C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer\OpenXR\virtualdesktop-openxr.dll somewhere else.
4. Replace it with the new DLL.
5. Set VDXR as the runtime in Virtual Desktop and run games as usual.
- OpenXR games bought on Steam: launch them from Virtual Desktop's "Games" tab to bypass SteamVR. Flat2VR and other OpenXR games: launch from the desktop with VD connected and VDXR as the runtime, and start the VR injector if needed.
- Requires Hub v1.6 or later. SteamVR and VDXR feeds run in parallel.
- Version conflict: the official VDXR video says "Foottroller Hub 1.5 adds VDXR support", but the Hub page says v1.6. Tell users to get the latest Hub. Runtime path from the video: Virtual Desktop Streamer → Options → OpenXR Runtime → VDXR. Locomotion arrives as the left-controller thumbstick, so it can work in other OpenXR games that move with the left stick. (video: https://youtu.be/1vWXio_-W2w)
- Confirmed through VDXR in official videos: Blade & Sorcery (launched from the VD Games tab) and Atomic Heart + UEVR (https://youtu.be/1vWXioW2w); Titfall 2 VR mod, "works automatically… no configuration needed" (https://youtu.be/oLw1j9AUc, https://youtu.be/FNcAtTlM2WI); Diablo II Resrected with the D2R VR mod, selecting VDXR + Virtual Desktop during mod install (https://youtu.be/-uNsGwt5P9s).
- Option 2:** SteamVR control binding, for OpenXR gam not bought on Steam. For Flat2VR games: set SteamVR as the default OpenXR runtime, disable Steam Input for the game, and use or generate a binding profile. Flat2VR titles with profiles: Hogwarts Legacy (UEVR), Atomic Heart (UEVR), Resident Evil 4, Half-Life VR mod.
- Option 3 for Flat2VR (from video** many flat-to-VR games ignore generic controllers but accept Xbox input. Map Foottroller to the left stick of an emulated Xbox controller in x360ce and keep x360ce running in the background. Examples: Atomic Heart, Resident Evil 4 Remake. (video: https://youtu.be/UU5L2ooLTuI)
- Non-Steam OpenXR games (e.g. Midnight Walk on GOG): (1) connect Quest 3 to the PC with Meta Air Link (avoid Steam Link); (2) launch SteamVR; (3) set SteamVR as the default OpenXR runtime; (4) run the game from GOG Galaxy; (5) use a custom SteamVR binding (support can help). | Version | Feature |
|---|---|
| (base) | Reads Foottroller and feeds the SteamVR driver; network stream for developers |
| v1.6+ | VDXR (OpenXR via Virtual Desktop) support |
| v1.7+ | Seated locomotion mode (foot tilts while seated), SteamVR and VDXR |
| v1.8+ | Advanced locomotion: cap the maximum initial speed, scale speed with step rate; uses Dev-mode raw data |
| v1.9+ | Gamepad support; flight-sim mode with rim mode |
| - vJoy panel: Skate mode (EA Sports Skate), differential pedal/brake mode, flight sim mode. | |
| - Download: foottrollerlabs.com/FoottrollerSupport/Foottrollerhub.zip and GitHub releases (github.com/smoothmover/foottrollersupport). Developers are told to "use the latest Hub tag". | |
| - An Android Hub app also exists (/dev-support). Video: https://youtu.be/cATiG1TXE00 | |
| - The current latest Hub version number is not stated. The newest version in any official video is v1.9 (Sept 23, 2026; https://youtu.be/PKlhO-DCicg). | |
| - Seated mode details (video): in the Hub locomotion panel, click Switch Mode. The control box must be in Dev mode. Right-foot tilt moves forward/back and left-foot tilt strafes. Both feet flat means no movement. Seated mode is designed for when pressing the buttons is inconvenient while seated. (video: https://youtu.be/MNZvMNTssyw) | |
| - Advanced locomotion details (video): in the locomotion panel, click Switch Mode (Dev mode required). Speed Adjustment scales walk/run-in-place speed by the displayed percentage. Initial Speed Adjustment sets the max start speed as a percentage of the game's maximum. Example settings: Fallout 4 VR 85% initial cap and 130% walk/run speed (https://youtu.be/l8HxNttDQfk); Skyrim VR 60% initial cap (https://youtu.be/faVIaedUqEE). |

| Symptom | Answer stated on site |
|---|---|
| Hub shows data but X/Y don't move | This is by design: movement only comes from specific gestures. Check the gestures in section 3. Slow-motion gestures: https://youtu.be/WqFHaOcvqZM |
| Walk-in-place keeps stopping | Keep only one foot on the ground at a time. Both feet down, even briefly, triggers stop. |
| Too slow / too fast | Before the first step, the starting foot's tilt sets the initial speed. Hub v1.8+ advanced locomotion (with Dev mode) adjusts walk-in-place speed. |
| Must I keep stepping? | No. Both feet down with one tilted keeps the same speed. |
| Game crashes when Foottroller connects | Happens with some games on some PCs. Use HIDHide to hide Foottroller from that game. Video (Blade & Sorcery, HIDHide plus Initial Speed tip): https://youtu.be/fLtK6NMwZrk |
| Can go forward but not back (one direction fails) | Check that the required buttons are pressed. A button may have failed: switch to Dev mode and test the 4 buttons in Windows USB game controller settings. If one is faulty, email support@jptiinc.com. |
| SteamVR binding doesn't work | Disable Steam Input for the game, and set the active binding to the default in SteamVR binding setup. If still broken, contact support. |
| No binding profile for a Steam game | (a) Legacy-binding games may work without one; (b) use VD + VDXR if the game is OpenXR; (c) make a profile: a JSON in the driver's input folder + edit controller_profile.json + restart SteamVR. Support can help. |
| Running doesn't go faster than walking | The driver uses step frequency only. Hub 1.8 Speed Adjustment can scale walk-in-place speed (https://youtu.be/l8HxNttDQfk). |
| VR controllers stop responding (OpenXR via SteamVR) | Official video: "Do not use the Steam Link app to connect your headset — it can cause the VR controllers to stop responding". Use Meta Air Link. (https://youtu.be/OxOMpMukBGU) |
| Very shaky view in an OpenXR game through SteamVR | Official video fix: set Meta Quest Link as the default OpenXR runtime, launch the game once directly through Link (without SteamVR), then switch back to SteamVR and restart. (https://youtu.be/OxOMpMukBGU) |
| Flight mode doesn't see the gamepad | Xbox/XInput gamepads aren't supported in Hub v1.9 flight mode; use a PlayStation or other non-Xbox pad. (https://youtu.be/3dutpAnuOn0) |
| Seated mode or advanced locomotion does nothing | The control box must be in Dev mode. (https://youtu.be/MNZvMNTssyw, https://youtu.be/l8HxNttDQfk) |
| Crampon heel button doesn't register | Some shoes don't make enough contact. Cut the red pad and stick it to the middle of the heel button cap with double-sided tape; use the white cushions as shown. |
| Unity binds the VR controller instead of Foottroller | Don't use "Listen". Manually set Gamepad → Left Stick. |
| Wrong device read in a PC game (x360ce) | Use HIDHide to hide the physical pads and leave the emulated Xbox pad visible. |
| WebXR stuck after clicking VR | Wait 30+ s and don't click again. |
| VR World Tour map outage | Use your own Google Maps API key (section 5). |
Support load is dominated by expectation-setting (standalone Quest limits, the movement-start gesture, sizing and shipping) more than by hardware failures.
"No movement in game" (the most common issue) has three causes: 1. The standalone game doesn't support gamepad locomotion (see 5.1). 2. The start gesture wasn't done: press down with both feet with a button engaged, then tilt one foot while keeping the pressure. Random foot movement does nothing, by design. 3. Wrong mode expectations: in Mode 1/2, button inputs aren't sent to the PC. If X/Y stay at 128 in Hub, movement was never triggered. - Diagnose in Dev mode: if all four buttons register there, the hardware is fine. - Tip: test first in VRChat (free). On Quest, VRChat needs Dev mode to activate (see 4.5).
Buttons won't stay pressed / crampons not registering: - This is a physical-contact issue, not an electronics one. If the buttons work when pressed by hand, the problem is the shoe or the surface. - A groove in the middle of the shoe sole can sit over the button and prevent a full press. - Crampons need a hard floor; carpet is too soft. - Support asks for photos of the shoes. In one case, the returned unit tested fine and a full refund was issued.
Hub says "Foottroller not found": - Check that the control box is paired to the PC over Bluetooth. - One green light with both shoes powered is normal. - Unpair from the previous device before pairing to a new one.
Half-Life: Alyx ignores Foottroller (Steam Frame): - If Foottroller registers in SteamVR controller setup, the driver is fine. - Fixes: disable Steam Input for the game, or pair the control box directly to the Frame over Bluetooth. Direct pairing is reported working by multiple users but not tested in-house; it relies on the Frame update that makes gamepad joystick input the default for VR movement ([Official support replies] (Oct 22, 2026 company statement)). - Outcome of this specific case unconfirmed. If neither fix works, escalate to support@jptiinc.com.

Integration options
1. Hub on Windows streams controls and data over local WiFi, with Unity scripts and an Unreal Engine 5 plugin (supports basic and advanced locomotion).
2. Hub Android app: pair Foottroller to the phone, then stream over WiFi to the same scripts/plugin.
3. Gamepad (standalone/PCVR): read the standard gamepad axes and buttons. Select them manually and do not use input "listening". Works alongside handheld VR controllers.
4. x360ce + HIDHide (PC games that want an Xbox pad): combine Foottroller with a regular gamepad in one emulated controller.
- Hub is only needed for options 1 and 2. When asking for help, send support your engine, headset/PC, Hub version, and path (gamepad/Hub/x360ce).
- Unity sample: the script FoottrollerNet.cs gets controls and data from Hub, and FoottrollerCtrl.cs uses them for locomotion (video: https://youtu.be/-4Q4KPRiLC4). Quest standalone Unity setup: https://youtu.be/7h0RCeYQxLc. Vertex Form 3D in 15 minutes: https://youtu.be/M_2IUcV9894. UE5: https://youtu.be/RoQdVaAt71c; plugin how-to https://youtu.be/iiy8rYtfsp0 (it reads from a Hub on the same computer or a device on the same local network).
- Files: GitHub smoothmover/foottrollersupport (releases v1.0, v1.1; /Unity folder). Examples: Unity standalone Quest walking "in under 15 minutes" with Vertex Form 3D; custom schemes for skating, soccer, driving, and flying.
- WebXR / PlayCanvas: a sample project has Foottroller locomotion and Gaussian-splat support. To use your own .ply: npm install -g @playcanvas/splat-transform, then splat-transform input.ply output/meta.json, host meta.json + .webp with CORS headers (an .htaccess example is given), and set splatUrl. GitHub Pages hosting: upload the build with index.html at the root, add .nojekyll, and enable Pages. Demos: smoothmover.github.io (Abandoned factory, Archviz/coffee shop, Calico Tanks Trail).
- NVIDIA Isaac Sim / Isaac Teleop:
- Ubuntu path: Isaac Sim + ROS2 + Python (pygame, jstest-gtk) reads Foottroller and drives a two-wheeled robot. It is based on ISAPC lab tutorial #6. Project files are downloadable.
- Windows path: enable the XR Experience extension and VR mode.
- Teleop gestures: forward/back, strafe, rotate CW/CCW, and height.
- Robotics videos: Ubuntu + ROS 2 robot control, using Isaac Sim 5.1, a Foottroller-only setup and a Foottroller + gamepad setup (https://youtu.be/ZRyNGsDjG9c) · Windows VR tutorial https://youtu.be/s9RB0701cdE · Isaac Sim VR locomotion https://youtu.be/OSV_lKXs-tg · focused vs exploratory mode https://youtu.be/KknStTQRK34 · Isaac Teleop gestures https://youtu.be/qGGIyA1QBXM
- Foottroller handles base locomotion only. It does not replace arm retargeting, hand tracking, or the VR controllers.
- Open-source plugin: github.com/smoothmover/IsaacTeleop-Foottroller.
- Labs site also mentions Isaac Lab, Omniverse digital twins, Unitree G1 humanoid teleop "and more", CloudXR support, ROS 2 action graph integration, and VR camera/vehicle control. These are listed only; no setup details are given.
- Labs position (blog, July 12, 2026): human teleoperation data is a step toward humanoid autonomy, and Foottroller serves as the "pedals and steering wheel" for teleop.

The Terms describe a "Two Year Limited Warranty": replacement, repair, or technical help depending on the problem, sometimes by sending parts. Consumables are exempt. The Terms also mention business/arcade use; that clause was truncated in the crawl. - Returns: the sources conflict. The Crampons page says "60 Days free return". The Terms say there is a satisfaction guarantee with a full refund if you email within 60 days, and return shipping is paid by the customer. The Refund Policy page says 45 days, no missing components, customer pays return cost and risk, refund within 45 days of receipt, and gift-credit rules. Agents must not settle this conflict themselves. Refer the customer to support. - Refunds and cancellations [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: - Refund: the customer ships the product back and gets a full refund on receipt. Support offers a Zoom call to diagnose the problem first. - Cancelling after customization has started: the customer chooses to have it shipped as planned, or to cancel for a partial refund (the total minus a small deduction for the shoes/customization already done). - The support replies give no day count, so the 45-day vs 60-day conflict above remains unresolved. Don't quote either as definitive. - International shipping [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: several countries aren't listed at checkout, so buyers email for a manual quote. The site does not answer these. Answer "not stated on the official site" and refer to support@jptiinc.com. 1. Battery life, power draw, and power-bank capacity. Partly answered [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: you need a micro-USB cable, two USB-C cables, and one or two power banks. Whether any of these come in the box is still not stated. 2. Weight, dimensions, materials, and maximum user weight. 3. Bluetooth version, range, latency, and polling rate. 4. ~~Pedal-mode button combination~~ Now filled from video: buttons 1 and 3 until both LEDs are off (https://youtu.be/yoBTxLg1BNs). Still unknown: a full LED/button reference for every mode, the Mode 1 LED state, and how to return to Mode 1, and which physical buttons are "1" and "3". 5. Current Hub version (newest in any video: v1.9), full changelog (the VDXR version conflicts: video says 1.5, site says 1.6), and system requirements. macOS Hub: not stated. Linux answered [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: no Linux Hub; Dev-mode gamepad inputs and the Unity/Unreal code work, but Linux would need community-built drivers. 6. Standalone or direct use with non-Meta headsets. Pico 4: explicitly unanswered by support, so escalate. Steam Frame: works via PC; direct Bluetooth pairing is reported working by multiple users but not tested in-house (company has no headset; [Official support replies] (Oct 22, 2026 company statement)). In-house verification is still pending. Vive, PSVR2, Apple Vision Pro, Quest Pro, and Quest 3S standalone: not stated. (Support says PCVR works on any headset.) 7. Partly filled from video: Meta Air Link + SteamVR is shown working; avoid Steam Link (https://youtu.be/OxOMpMukBGU). Still unknown: whether wired Link works with VDXR (only Virtual Desktop is documented). 8. Whether colors or styles exist for the Crampons, the $99.99 assembled model, and SE v1. 9. Which return window applies: 45 or 60 days (still conflicting; support replies give no day count, only "full refund on receipt" and a partial refund if you cancel after customization). Who pays return shipping. Warranty outside the US. 10. International shipping. Partly answered [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: manual, buyer-paid quotes by email (examples: Poland $32 / 3–4 weeks, Hungary $30, Spain $31). Still unknown: the full list of countries, taxes and duties, and typical delivery times elsewhere. 11. ~~Stock status~~ Answered for SE v2 [Official support replies (Jul–Oct 2026)]: no inventory on hand; made-to-order (shoes sourced from Amazon, then customized). Still unknown: stock for Crampons and the $99.99 assembled unit, and production lead times. 12. Whether the $99.99 "VR Foottroller fully assembled" includes shoes. Its included items list says only "Fully assembled Foottroller and the Foottroller control box". 13. Firmware updates (whether and how they happen). 14. Water or sweat resistance, cleaning, and care. 15. Safety guidance beyond "keep a hand on the treadmill rail". 16. Whether two Foottrollers can be used at once, and multi-user or arcade licensing details. 17. Full list of verified Quest standalone games beyond the four listed (support confirms the same four; Arizona Sunshine Remake standalone: "probably not"); the exact contents of "and more" in the SteamVR profile list. 18. Pricing and availability of VR World Tour and VR Soccer. 19. Exact protocol and port of the Hub network stream; SDK docs beyond the Unity scripts, UE5 plugin, and videos. 20. Details of the patent and of company or legal entity relationships (JPTI vs. Foottroller AI Labs LLC). 21. Status of legacy apps and modes seen in older videos: Foottroller+ iOS app (https://youtu.be/wKXKD4r6MMU), smartphone "pedal and wheel" mode (https://youtu.be/r3BRvpc4vs4), and the "Foottroller playground" Quest app on the Horizon store (https://youtu.be/DBhiTu2qajs). None of these appear on the current site. 22. Pico 4 compatibility: a customer asked and support never answered. Do not answer; escalate to support@jptiinc.com. 23. Assembled (non-SE) model above US 12: support says it is fine only up to US 12, but the product page lists up to 15W/13M. Unresolved; confirm with support.
